Good news - orthodontic treatment is available to patients of all ages! In accordance with the American Association of Orthodontists, we recommend that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by the age of 7. With early evaluation and diagnosis, children can achieve optimal orthodontic results. Early treatment provides a range of benefits and often means that a patient can avoid surgery or other serious complications.
Between the ages of 11 and 15 is the most common time for adolescent orthodontic treatment, and for good reasons. By age 12, most permanent teeth are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can be easily detected. Kids in this age range grow rapidly, and orthodontists can take advantage of growth spurts to correct bites and teeth alignment. Teens also have high metabolisms which can help shorten overall treatment time and reduce discomfort during treatment. And adolescents are often more comfortable wearing braces because their friends are wearing them, too.
There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment, and we provide adult orthodontic treatment, too! A large percentage of our patients are adults, and they agree that it's never too late to improve their greatest asset - their smile.
